Counselors in Residence

Shanel Stephens

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and the Department of Housing and Residential Education have collaborated to develop the Counselor in Residence (CIR) Program. The program is designed to provide in-person mental health support and consultation during evenings and weekends when CAPS is closed. While the CIRs will not provide therapeutic services, they will provide Let’s Talk consultations to residential students wanting support with their respective concerns and assist students in connecting with different resources on campus.

The CIRs are an additional resource for residential students.  If you or a friend are experiencing a psychological emergency and there is immediate risk of harm to self or others,  the quickest way to get help is to  call 911.

If you (or a friend) are experiencing distress and need someone to talk with in the middle of the night or on the weekend, please call the CAPS's main number (561-297-CAPS), follow the prompts and you will be immediately connected to a licensed therapist. This service cannot change or schedule appointments. The after-hours crisis counselor is available when CAPS is closed.

We want you to have as many options as possible to reach out for help. Here are a few additional resources that we are aware of. Please be aware that we are not affiliated with these agencies, and therefore, cannot vouch for the quality of the off-campus services.
